The Boxer Twin works well in many forms, but particularly well as a 'Scrambler'. The brief for this build was straight forward. A muscular, chunky look, clean lines and two tone leather on the tank. Inspired by U.S. desert racing as seen in the iconic film 'On Any Sunday', the name "Desert Sled" seemed to fit the bike, even though It'll probably never see a desert! The colours of the two tone leather on the tank, expertly applied by master upholsterer Glenn Moger, were chosen to mimic some of the desert colours. We think it works well and it's a bit unusual.
Here's the spec of the build:
New clutch, timing chain kit, new piston rings, re-furbished cylinder heads, new lighter, lower geared, more powerful starter motor, slim line top engine cover/air box eliminator.
Re-furbished carbs with remote choke pulls, Ram Air filters.
Satin black and polished alloy engine detailing.
Frame, swinging arm and wheels powder coated satin black, Heidenau T60 dual purpose tyres. Reversed fork legs with rear mounted Brembo calipers, new pads, seals and Goodridge stainless braided hoses.
Short alloy custom fenders. YSS fully adjustable rear shock. Our own SRC lightweight subframe with two tone leather seat. Satin black 'fat bars' with custom alloy clamps and concealed, thru bar wiring.
Larger satin black headlamp with lens protector grill, billet alloy headlamp shrouds. Acewell billet alloy speedo/tacho. New front brake master cylinder assembly. Domino competition throttle with Daytona brown gel grips. Satin stainless exhaust headers with satin black and chrome short reverse cone silencers.
Motogadget billet alloy push button switches, M unit controller and M button. Custom lightweight wiring loom. New re-positioned ignition switch. Micro LED indicators, satin black LED tail light. New, smaller gel battery.
