Honda cx500 Cafe Racer
This is a high end build caferully planned and created to give old school charm with reliability and style.
I purchased a 1978 bike with low miles (32k) from a Cx500 enthusiast, it was a very nice bike and just had the engine rebuilt.
I wanted to change the rear of the bike and contacted a local design and fabrication shop and discussed my ideas. We set out to create a custom rear end, very minamalist but to be built like a factory frame, a bespoke frame jig was firstly created whereby all the reference points could be calculated and the fabrication took place. The lower frame tube connectors were blanked off with lazer cut metal seamlessly welded in so you would not know anything has changed, the rear uprights were swooped to mirror the lower lines and joined to the top tube which was done to emulate the classic straight lines of a cafe racer. These were cleverly hidden by the sides of the seat and a lazer cut steel plate added to the rails to follow the seat footprint. Custom light and indicator mounts complete the rear, the seat itself was created as a one off for me by Von-Zeti, not the cheapest but high quality.
The engine was previously re built but the mechanic that does all my bikes wanted to check things so he set about his investigating only to find that everything was spot on. I added a full stainless engine bolt kit. Oil temp guage/filler cap. re built vapour blasted and re jetted carbs to suit the exhaust and filters, and finally a new clutch along with various other parts you would associate with a no expense spared high quality build.
The suspension has been lowered 2" and uprated at the front and the rear shocks are YSS which are amazing performance, these were carefully selected with dialogue from the UK importer of YSS to suit the bike.
The brakes are fully rebuilt with stainless braided hoses at the front, Honda CBR master cylinder and leaver, new stainless pistons and calliper rebuild kit, the rebuilt rears feature old school custom cooling vents and the front disks drilled out by a wonderful old chap that specialises in this and plots each out individually after a consultation. All subtle but gives a distinctive and bespoke look!
The electrics have all been simplified with discrete indicators, led stop/tail light, neatly mounted speedo including all standard warning lights and standard Honda switchgear that was given a clean and check before being painted along with all other components to a professional finish.
The paintwork throughout on this bike is to show quality, the frame was cleaned of any unwanted tabs and all welds smoothed and filled before being painted gloss black along with the forks, yokes, custom stem, swing arm wheels and of course that tank painted in House of Kolor Green, this really sparkles in the sunlight popping out all the colours evident within this paint mix although the pictures don't really show this.

Having only done 150ish miles from rebuild this is an as new bike, built to the highest standard for reliability, safety and unique one off style, it is also road tax and MOT exempt.
