1976 Yamaha XS650

Ground up custom build in a Street Tracker style

Built by myself a 40 year experienced time served engineer/fabricator/machinist.

Displayed at  Bikeshed London 2022 show in Tobacco Dock. Arguably Europe's most exclusive custom bike show.

Was featured by online magazine, Bikebound and described as “….one of the cleanest XS650 trackers we’ve seen”

Too many details to list. But some notable items include

Boyer Bransden electronic ignition system

Motogadget M-Unit, and completely replaced wiring loom.

T&T digital speedo

New, Mikuni VM34 Carbs with lightened slide springs and 2-1 Venhill cable system.

Refurbished/powder coated wheels with new stainless spokes, bearings and seals, period looking Heidenau K34 Tyres

Engine strip down and examination, including new rings, valves, gaskets, seals etc.

Domino quick action throttle, DNA filters plus optional alloy velocity stacks.

Fabricated custom made sub-frame for new seat unit.

Handmade seat pad with custom on off professional cover.

Main frame de-tabbed, and then powder coated in pearlescent dark Charcoal colour scheme. Steering housing modified to take modern taper roller bearings, additional custom made hardware and top yoke modifications.

2-1 Full stainless exhaust system

Complete brake & suspension upgrade, new stainless forks, with progressive fork springs, and YSS Alloy shocks

New chain/sprockets, with 520 O-ring conversion.

New stainless 7/8” “Triumph Bend” handlebars.

Lots of other minor details, including custom made fasteners, brackets and various other hand crafted/machine/fabricated parts.

The colour scheme is a nod to the classic Yamaha livery, and is painted in pearlescent white, with the matching R1 red colour scheme reminiscent of its first generation super-bike.

The bike needs to be seen close up, to be appreciated. It rides superbly and has covered approx. 600 miles since being finished. It starts on the button and rides superbly. Great bike to stand out from the crowd at your local Sunday Café stop. I’ve got hundreds of pics of the bike during the build and more finished pictures on request, but realistically needs to be seen close up to be appreciated. Its been very well received by everyone who's seen it close up, you'll not be disappointed.  Bike is Tax and MOT exempt, registered as a classic on the V5 which is in my name.
