I stopped for a drink at The Bike Shed over the show weekend and was sitting quietly overlooking Flynn on its plinth in Shoreditch. During the hour I was there, it became almost comical watching all the people who stopped to admire the detail and then stopped again and again as they tried to walk away as their brains slowly caught up with the detail their eyes had seen but not had time to process. They're not alone as nearly a third of a million people have watched the delivery video, making it one of The Bike Sheds most liked and viewed custom motorcycles.

At the beginning it was a simple idea, to design and build an undeniably unique custom motorcycle that gave me a rush of blood to the head whenever I looked at it. 

The result is Flynn, a richly detailed, muscular yet elegant custom motorcycle that looks as good hanging on a wall in an art gallery as it does on the road.

Over 80 bespoke handmade components and 1500+ hours of hand crafting come together in this stunning build from Polished Studio. 

Originally displayed at last year's London Bike Shed show at the Tobacco Dock and many visitors 'Best in Show' choice. 

Flynn’s 23” spoked wheels immediately give the bike its stance and presence, especially when paired with the simple but handsome 1986 Harley Davidson v-twin engine and hardtail frame.

The sweeping lines of the hand-formed aluminium fuel tank neatly conceals the oil tank, Motogadget electronics and lithium battery.

Trying to maintain some old school charm in the design led to the choice of girder forks and mechanical seat suspension. The sculptural wishbone of the seat suspension drapes around the curves of the rear mudguard and links up with hand-made spring elements which are styled to emulate a shock absorber. 

The vision for clean handlebars required a reimagining of the brakes and clutch placement. The unique hand-shift gear change and clutch are integrated on the left hand side, whilst on the right, the Performance Machine front, and sprocket brake rear, callipers are operated through dual foot pedals. These require a little practice but with patience it’s a little like heel and toeing race car pedals.

This left the handlebars uncluttered and just housing the internal throttle in the right grip and internally routed push button switchgear operating the lights and indicators.

Flynn’s front elevation heroes the mirrors and indicators on elegantly curved whiskers, with a bespoke ‘knock back’ mechanism built in.

Every detail has been considered from the centre stand and stainless steel oil lines to the concealed wiring. 

Finishing touches include the colour matched saddle and leather centre strip and the hand detailed pin-striping on the tanks that highlight the lustre of the nickel plating.

Flynn is a truly unique custom motorcycle that I hope intoxicates your senses as well.

Following several months on display by invitation at The Bike Shed HQ - Shoreditch, Flynn has now returned to my collection in the Cotswolds UK for viewing by appointment.
